MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
The minutes of the previous meeting on 22 August 2006 having been circulated were passed as a true record of events by Cllr McNulty and seconded by Cllr Hanson and signed by the Chairman.
Police Matters
Attended by PC Ian McAvoy.Commented on the very low crime in Morebattle but asked that suspicious behaviour is reported. After our last meeting the PC was asked why a call made was answered by Edinburgh and not by Hawick. He said it was a regular complaint and suggested that we could write with our concerns and hopefully if enough complain then changes could be made back to a localised system.
Speaker – Eileen Woodward, Update on Morebattle Poet
Plaque for Robert Davidson was being made in Ancrum to go on the church wall. They committee were also trying to get his works republished but this will prove to be expensive.Plaque will be unveiled on 27 October 2006 at 2pm.Primary school children are getting involved and the local press are being invited. If the unveiling is successful it is hoped that an evening could be held for poem readings etc.The poet is buried in Morebattle churchyard and some descendents of him are coming from America for the unveiling. The committee is also suggesting that the poet could go on the information board for Morebattle.
MATTERS ARISING
·Bonfire Night
Questions raised over where to have it.Would need more volunteers, not enough last year.Risk assessments have to be made and last year the insurance was roughly £78.Agreed that a notice would be put in notice board saying that KCC was no longer able to organise the event due to lack of support and that if anyone else would like to take on the event we’d be happy to help with the insurance and risk assessment. All agreed that the event was too much work for Cllr McNulty to organise alone.
·Information Board for Morebattle
ACTION:Secretary to invite Guy Campbell to come along to next meeting to discuss ideas for the information board.
·School Playing Field
A letter has been made to invite people to join the new committee. These have not gone out yet as still deciding on who may be interested to join. The letters will go out soon.
·Parking and Twenty’s Plenty
The school is going to monitor the problems with parking.
Chairman had been in touch with Euan Robson about the Twenty’s Plenty signs.Mr Robson had enclosed a letter from Scottish Power, which confirmed that the connections had been made so appears that the Council have been blaming Scottish Power and the delay was actually with them.An email had been received from Philipa Ghouley from SBC who confirmed the signs would be up and running soon.

Judges Comments – “A very tidy village with a lovely setting in the foothills of the Cheviots. There were no signs of litter or graffiti and some very good permanent planting in certain areas, would benefit from more in general.Annual bedding was lacking colour in some areas but it was understood that wind is a problem that hinders the use of hanging baskets.Perhaps the use of larger tubs or torughs would help to add to the main street. The churchyard and private buildings were in good order and grass areas well maintained.Local information was well presented, indicating the excellent community involvement in the village, including the establishment of the “Morebattle in Bloom” committee. The planting of a willow tunnel and bog garden at the school and the landscaping at the war memorial are recent examples of community projects that were particularly impressive”
Well done to all those involved!!!
An update on the accounts, £130 had been received from SBC for the hire of the Institute for meetings.£1113 was in the KCC bank account.£41.40 had been paid in to the KCC account in error – should have gone in the book account. This has now been rectified.
Kalewater Miscellany are sold at £5 each and shops get 10% off for selling them but never can keep real track of how many are being sold.Agreed that the shops would get 20% off for selling them if money is paid upfront.Books will still be sold at £5 each.
Meg Moffat will be 100 on 5 October 2006.Agreed that a card would be sent to her from Kalewater Community Council to wish her congratulations.
