Minutes of Previous Meeting of 20 September 2016

The minutes of the previous meeting of 20 September having been circulated were passed as a true record of events, bar a typo on p1 and p2.

SBC grant of £800 has arrived.

Trees and Hedge by Morebattle graveyard

SBC Cllr Mountford reported that SBC Officer Alastair Finnie had the path in hand.

Cllr Hall reported that both sides of the hedge were being trimmed by the landowners on one side and SBC on the other.

SBC Cllr Mountford noted that SBC did not regard the trees or their roots as a hazard to graves on the site.

Morebattle PS Headteacher appointment

Cllr McEwan reported that Adam Lindsay’s temporary appointment had been made permanent.

Consultation on removal of public payphones

Completed.

Queen 90th Birthday Celebration Trees

Cllr Hall reported that location had been agreed and that supplier will advise on exact position in relation to the road verge.

Footpath Alternative to Road in Morebattle

Cllr Hall and a local resident had recently looked at a possible route for a path and Cllr Hall will speak to the landowner soon and then to an SBC Access Ranger.

SBC Cllr Nicol not present to report. Cllr McEwan had attended with SBC Officer A. Finnie and colleague and they will respond with proposals in due course.

Secretary read through questions and recorded community council’s responses.

Secretary read email from SBC Officer Douglas Scott. Community Council response had been passed on.

Agreed that Morebattle area was lacking suitable sufficient accommodation to support a significant walking festival.

Treasurer has purchased three wreaths for Linton, Hownam and Morebattle and will contact suitable members of the community including a Kelso HS student who has visited the WW1 battlefields.

Una Stuart has temporarily replaced Robin McHaffie following his recent retirement.

Institute Refuse Bin

SBC Cllr Mountford reported a need for a black refuse bin for the institute and noted a missing inspection cover on the road by the Institute (either SBC or a utility company responsibility).
