Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting of 20 January having been circulated were passed as a true record of events.

Trysting tree Cllr McNulty and contractor had examined remains of metal guard around tree – advice was to leave it in place.

Cllr Hall would ask tree surgeon for their opinion too.

Agreed that no new guard would be installed.

Morebattle Development Site Trees are outside owner’s planning development area but within the site. A site meeting with Chair and owner would be helpful. Draft letter and email to Chair.

SBCCN survey on online presence Secretary had responded.

SBC Cllr Nicol noted that Kelso CC placed their minutes on Facebook. A very large number of responses resulted which might be difficult to manage.

Defibrillators Invoices have been paid and delivery expected soon. No location yet identified in Cessford. Electricity costs/year approx. £5.

Cllr Bell would speak to Yetholm CC re. their experience of insurance and property deeds where a unit is located on private land.

Training dates not yet available. Update requested for village shop.

Mainsfield Road traffic speed signs SBC Cllr Nicol reported that SBC officers were reluctant to consider moving 30mph signs. Request a mobile speedcam to collect evidence.

Land near Morebattle Mains SBC Cllr Nicol reported that he spoken to the landowners re. installing a seat. Awaiting a response. Unpaid Work group could potentially supply and install any seat.

Morebattle Archive Cllr Hall suggested contacting SBC archivist Paul Brough at Hawick Heritage Hub for advice. Public meeting suggested.

Land by Morebattle PS Cllr Hall noted that the site needs tidying. Cllr Pedersen had offered to clear the site in conjunction with the landowners. Three fruit trees could be planted.

Suzanne was not present.

Agreed to fund replenishing of sand.

·  Letter from Lammermuirs Community Council re. NHS Borders out-of-hours services consultation.
Following discussion Kalewater CC reasonably happy with the current arrangement of Out of Hours Care.

The Secretary summarised some of the items going into the new circulation folder as listed on the agenda.

SBC Cllr Nicol noted that there had been no stop & search of children in the Scottish Borders in recent years.

Cllr Edgar had forwarded some thoughts on proposed land reform by Scottish Government.

Cllr Bell noted recent SBC Small Works report and suggested that Morebattle would benefit from a street sign for Thimble Row, especially for delivery vans. SBC Cllr Nicol felt that other street signs were missing in Morebattle. Cllr Bell to draft a list for passing to SBC Cllr Nicol.

Cllr Hall had recently spoken to the Paxton rep for Community Resilience and would put them in contact with Cllr Pedersen.

Cllr Aitchison noted that £1500 had been raised for the defibrillators.

Cllr Aitchison noted that salt bin at Buchtrig was no longer there and was an issue in icy conditions. Could it be replaced?

Cllr Aitchison reported that there were some bad potholes in Hownam and he would report them via SBC website.
