Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting of 17 January having been circulated were passed as a true record of events.

Secretary to forward Cllr McNulty email from SBC Access Officer Neil Mackay received in January re. Dere Street vehicle damage.

Completed. Chair thanked Cllr McEwan for organising flyers for the public meeting and also to Cllr Grime for distributing many of them.

Treasurer had contacted SBC Officer Linda Cornwall and there may be Jubilee events funding available. Need to develop some ideas – school questionnaire suggested by Cllr McEwan. Also a picnic and a beacon. Cllrs Lister and Cessford to progress.

None of the community councillors were in attendance to report.

    SBC Cllr Nicol noted that there had been a wide range of community responses to SBC Officer Jason Hedley’s letter. The meeting noted that there was already considerable community involvement through ‘Morebattle in Bloom’ and that the arrangements for 2011 should be continued.

  • Cllr McEwan was concerned at the danger of traffic accidents at the Linton Burnfoot bridge due to the narrowness of the road. Could white lines on the road help to avoid the bridge being hit by vehicles?SBC Cllr Nicol to contact a SBC Roads engineer for a response.
  • Cllr McEwan asked whether Morebattle Christmas trees could be uplifted as happens in Kelso?SBC Cllr Nicol to enquire whether a SBC chipper could make a visit in future.
  • Kalewater Community Council had received an invitation to Yetholm Kirk event marking the completion of restoration work and for a ‘vision’ event. Cllrs Lister and Pedersen to attend.

     

  • It was noted that there would soon be a St Cuthbert’s Way business event at Yetholm Youth Hall. No progress on the SCW panel for Morebattle at present.

     

  • Member of public and former community councillor Margaret Blackmore asked whether any community councillors would like to volunteer for Neighbourhood Watch in Morebattle. Cllr Lister offered to cover Heughhead and Cllrs Cessford and McEwan also offered to participate. A local NW coordinator might be required too. A poster would be put into the shop. MB was thanked for her work as Morebattle Neighbourhood Watch coordinator.

     

  • Member of public (MB) asked if a commemorative tree and plaque could be installed to mark the Jubilee..
